WELCOME

Welcome to the Urban Culture course at Avila University created by Susan Lawlor and Dotty Hamilton.  We travel with our students to great cities to explore art museums, engage with the architecture, study the local film and music venues, and experience the ethnic enclaves as a way to learn about the culture of urban spaces and the interaction of art and environment.  It's a fun, intense learning environment.

Million Dollar Quartet at the Apollo

Our last night in Chicago we went to the Apollo Theatre to see Million Dollar Quartet (Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis)  Very entertaining - an enthusiastic, talented cast that gave an exurberant performance.

  1. We were not scheduled to see Million Dollar Quartet, but the one we planned was no longer playing. Some of us were very apprehensive about seeing something different, and we were not so sure what exactly the show would be about. Because of this, we were able to go into it with an open mind. The show turned out to be phenomenal and we all were very entertained. It was fun to learn about that one night in history and get a feel for how the music industry was run in the 50's. It was also fun to get out of the main loop of Chicago and go to Lincoln Park, where the Apollo Theater is. I would suggest this to everyone!

  2. I agree with meredith. The MIllion Dollar Quartet was a great show. The music was great as it was performed live rather than a sound track. The acting was great, the story was great, and most of all it was pretty funny. I have to say my favorite character has to be Jerry Lee Louis. So Funny.
