WELCOME

Welcome to the Urban Culture course at Avila University created by Susan Lawlor and Dotty Hamilton.  We travel with our students to great cities to explore art museums, engage with the architecture, study the local film and music venues, and experience the ethnic enclaves as a way to learn about the culture of urban spaces and the interaction of art and environment.  It's a fun, intense learning environment.

  1. I never had Indian food until this trip! The waiter taught me a lot about the different spices and convinced me to get a spicy chicken dish. I absolutely loved it! I am in love with Indian food now! That was not the only thing that I tried for the first time. I also tried the Poutine as seen above. That has become my favorite food in the entire world. I had it every single day while being there. I will never forget the different food and can not wait to go back there and eat more poutine!

  2. I loved having Indian food on this trip! Although I have had Indian food before, I think it was a great experience to allow the students to try something that they normally wouldn't try. I tried something different on the menu myself. I feel like most people have their specific foods that they stay with in their life, and many young adults don't like branching out and trying something new. This was a great experience. I would encourage everyone to try Indian food or any food from a different culture.
