WELCOME

Welcome to the Urban Culture course at Avila University created by Susan Lawlor and Dotty Hamilton.  We travel with our students to great cities to explore art museums, engage with the architecture, study the local film and music venues, and experience the ethnic enclaves as a way to learn about the culture of urban spaces and the interaction of art and environment.  It's a fun, intense learning environment.

Walking tour of Old Montreal with our guide Michel learning our Montreal's history and architecture

  1. Old Montreal was my favorite place. I was really happy we got an actual tour of it. Learning about the history behind everything was amazing and really got me to think about much work went in to building and maintaining that area. It's really great that a lot of it is still the original architecture because places like that, with that kind of character, are hard to find these days. Between the structures, old buildings, original brick road/walkways, funky little shops, and the food, it reminded me a lot of home.
