WELCOME

Welcome to the Urban Culture course at Avila University created by Susan Lawlor and Dotty Hamilton.  We travel with our students to great cities to explore art museums, engage with the architecture, study the local film and music venues, and experience the ethnic enclaves as a way to learn about the culture of urban spaces and the interaction of art and environment.  It's a fun, intense learning environment.

  2. Agree Bryce. I've been to Second City in Chicago numerous times, and this was every bit as good.

  3. I say this was by far my favorite. The amount of talent it takes to do this is amazing to me. The ability to make people laugh and keep a set going with out any practice of rehearsals. I would love to find a place in Kansas city like this and go see it.

    1. I would have to agree with James about the improv show being one of my favorites as well. I've never attended a improv, but I would love to find one in the Kansas City area to attend this summer. It was amazing to see how they could make the audience laugh so much and be able to act and flow together so well will so little guidance.

  4. This was fabulous! First time attending one and wasnt sure what to expect but I was laughing the whole time I was in there!! It really made me appreciate how difficult this would be to do. I think Bryce, James, and I should of tried it up on the stage though! I will for sure try and find a place like this in KC or back home in St. Louis and have to see it! Lastly, I wanted to add that James is hella ugly!

  5. This was my favorite activity of the trip! It was a wonderful way to end the trip with laughter and fun. They had me engaged and laughing the whole time. I have always wanted to get in to improv, but have never had the guts to do it. I got the chance to talk to one of the comedians after the show and he told me it is a very slow and tough process, but if it is something I want to do I should just go for it! I will definitely be going to more shows here in KC and who knows maybe I'll get the guts to just do it!

  6. This was easily one of my top five favorite things that I saw/experienced on this trip! Having a small performance background (emphasis on the small) I can definitely appreciate how quickly these performers were able to think on their feet. I also (like many others) loved their depiction of the border wars and popeyes and how crazy accurate some of their improvisations were about the United States. I'm already on the hunt to find improv theaters in KC!
