WELCOME

Welcome to the Urban Culture course at Avila University created by Susan Lawlor and Dotty Hamilton.  We travel with our students to great cities to explore art museums, engage with the architecture, study the local film and music venues, and experience the ethnic enclaves as a way to learn about the culture of urban spaces and the interaction of art and environment.  It's a fun, intense learning environment.

  1. Hi, it's Susan! This is James and Katie, in the Toronto airport, ready to go home. What a great trip we had in Toronto. I want to go back, right now!

  2. Besides the priceless timing thanks to Dotty, I feel that this picture says a lot compared to those taken at the beginning of the trip. Who would have guessed that what began as a group of strangers solely talking to the few people they knew, would turn into a mingling bunch of new friends. It was really nice to meet other students outside of the Nursing program and to bond so quickly. As you can see in my face, I was clearly exhausted yet happy to be traveling with all of them. Despite the bags under my eyes from the lack of sleep and the "cankles" I grew from miles upon miles of walking in flip flops, I would not have had it any other way. Every time I share stories from the trip, I find myself wanting to go back already. Montreal was truly amazing and our group was simply fantastic. From breakfast arriving daily to our rooms to the metro rides, tours, meals, shopping, dance, plays, improv, architecture, etc... I credit Susan and Dotty for putting together such an extensive/entertaining itinerary and to the rest of you for making my experience one I will never forget!
